It’s gotten cold all of a sudden. Lovely frisbee weather besides the wind, though. The lizards are all sluggish, and people are pulling out their sweaters to go with their flip flops. And for the first time in like six months, it’s below 79 in the house.
We tried planting a few herbs and tomatoes today. We don’t have much hope for them.
Over the summer, this vine has been enthusiastically growing over the bushes around the yard. It’s been making bean pods:
And we’ve had a mockingbird hanging out by our front gate lately. I have yet to get a picture of it doing the flashing wings bug dance.
That’s a great picture of the mocking bird. Tell me more about this dance that they do! So, do the birds mock you? Like when you leave the house, do they say things like, “Hey, nice hat, it looks like my uncles goiter.” Or anything like that? Or do they just laugh at you.
What kind of beans are they? Are they edible?
I don’t know what kind of beans they are. I was going to take a picture of the vine’s leaves, but I got distracted.
In this case, mock means to imitate. (ImitatingBird just doesn’t have a good ring, though) We once heard a mockingbird imitating a car alarm. They’re pretty smart birds. To hunt, they will hop around in the grass and flash their wings, which have white bars across their feathers. The change in color scares the bugs up.

Neat!
I wonder if I can get one to imitate me, then I would not have to go into work.
“Start your homework early.”
“Bob the Happy fish.”
“Is that a pie?”
I don’t think I need more than that.
